Show your love

The 'letters' on this site can come in many forms, not only written, and are as diverse as we hope they are thought-provoking.

You, too, can create and submit your own love letter to places you care about through our online portal, and workshops we are running during Melbourne Design Week 2021.

Would you like to add your own love letter to the epistolary collection?

What you'll need

Making your own letter to Melbourne should take around 10 minutes, although you may enjoy the process (or you may have a super awesome idea) and want to take longer.

You will need:
♥︎ Pen and paper to write your love letter and/or a camera or smart device to record your letter
♥︎ Access to Google Maps, to find the coordinates of the place you are writing your love letter to

We’ve made a form with lots of guidance to help you compose your own love letter and upload it to the epistolary.

You can get started by clicking here ♥︎

Through our epistolary we tackle the really big questions:

...what does a love letter to a city look like? can we show love?
...what is love?

🎶 (Baby don't hurt me...)

Writing letters are a beautiful way of showing love, but it's certainly not the only way!

So in this spirit we encourage you to not just write a note, but show your love through action. Consider how you can actively care for your city to design the world you want.

Stuck for ideas? Here's a few prompts:

Volunteer to take photos for the local newsletter
Advocate for an Indigenous or disadvantaged community
Plant some native trees with a local club
Make friends with the neighbourhood cat
Pick up that discarded bottle on the street
Get to know your local barista
Fill up a little bird bath on your balcony on a hot day
Buy your neighbour a beer... on a hot day

Whatever you choose to do, do it with purpose.

Love is the active concern for the life and the growth of that which we love.
